INSTALLATION SEALERS

Pre-Sealing, Dip Sealing & Six-Sided Sealing

Installation sealers are applied to stone and tile before or during installation. Pre-sealing, dip sealing and six-sided sealing help reduce adhesive blotching, picture framing, efflorescence and grout staining, and make grout clean up easier.

What is an installation sealer?

An installation sealer is applied before the stone or tile is laid, or before grouting. It penetrates the surface and helps reduce how much moisture, adhesive and grout residue the material absorbs during installation.

Natural stone such as sandstone, travertine, limestone, marble and bluestone, plus terracotta, terrazzo and encaustic tiles, can absorb moisture and minerals from the bed and grout. An installation sealer helps reduce the blotching, picture framing and mineral bloom this can cause.

  • Ultra-Block - economical, low VOC, water based installation sealer for six-sided sealing, dip sealing, underside sealing and pre-grout sealing
  • Condense Plus - consolidator and installation sealer that also helps strengthen and densify soft, sandy stone

Pre-sealing, dip sealing and six-sided sealing

Pre-sealing is one coat on the face of the stone or tile before grouting, so grout haze and pigments wash off more easily. Dip sealing and six-sided sealing coat the face, back and edges before installation, helping protect the parts that are hard to reach once laid.

After installation and grouting, finish with a topical sealer such as Aqua-Seal Gold+ or Enhance'N'Seal for everyday stain protection.

  • Always test first in a small, hidden area
  • Allow the installation sealer to dry before laying or grouting

FAQs

Installation sealers: common questions

Do I need an installation sealer?

Installation sealers are recommended for porous natural stone, terracotta, terrazzo and encaustic tiles, especially pale or soft stone. They help reduce adhesive blotching, picture framing, efflorescence and grout staining during installation.

What is the difference between Ultra-Block and Condense Plus?

Both can be used for pre-sealing and six-sided sealing. Condense Plus is also a consolidator that helps strengthen and densify soft, sandy or weathered stone such as sandstone. Ultra-Block is the economical choice for general installation sealing.

Do I still need to seal after installation?

Yes. An installation sealer helps protect the stone during laying and grouting. Apply a topical sealer such as Aqua-Seal Gold+ or Enhance'N'Seal after installation for everyday stain protection.

How much installation sealer do I need?

Coverage depends on the surface, finish and method. Pre-sealing is usually one coat, while six-sided and dip sealing use more product. Use the Product Selector or call us on +61 2 9521-4000 for a quote.
