CONDENSE PLUS - Consolidator, Strengthener and Densifier Sealer
Full description
About CONDENSE PLUS
Premium NanoPlus consolidator, densifier and strengthener for natural stone, terrazzo, encaustic tiles, cement and more.
Technical Bulletin (PDF) ›Description
Condense Plus is a High Performance, low VOC (<1 g/L), Green Star compliant, fast curing (24 hour cure), water based, breathable, installation type sealer to help consolidate, strengthen, reinforce plus densify surfaces that might be susceptible to erosion, salt attack, mineral blooming etc. Also helps minimise staining from glue and grout during installation.
How does it work
NanoPlus sized sealing molecules penetrate deep into the surface, then chemically bond and help consolidate, densify, reinforce and strengthen the soft, friable surface from within. Creates a water repellent and breathable surface. Helps reduce picture framing, efflorescence, mineral blooming, staining during grouting and adhesive blotch marks. Suitable for helping restore, stabilise and strengthen crumbling stone e.g. pool coping, sandstone and other soft natural stone surfaces. Helps reduce stone erosion and further crumbling, sanding and damage to friable surfaces.
Works on & where to use
Works on: all natural stone (e.g. basalt, bluestone, granite, marble, limestone, quartz, sandstone, slate, travertine etc), encaustic, terrazzo and quarry tiles, bricks, saltillo, terracotta, concrete, pavers and more.
Where to use: walls and floors in domestic, commercial, indoor and outdoor areas e.g. chlorine or salt water swimming pools, pool copings, homes, supermarkets, airports, hotels, resorts, foyers, retail stores, restaurants, bars, driveways etc.
Test first: always test first in an inconspicuous area to determine ease of application, number of coats required, colour stability and desired final results. The end user must determine suitability of the product for their own use.
What you need & preparation
- Protective gloves, eye, skin and foot protection
- Sealer applicator, pump sprayer, sealer sponge, brush, paint roller or paint pad plus a suitable plastic container or paint tray
- Clean absorbent cotton cloths or towels, squeegee and plastic sheeting
Preparing the surface: to clean and prepare the surface before sealing use either XtremeClean+ or Stone Wash+ and rinse thoroughly.
How to use - top surface pre-sealing or consolidating
- Apply sealer to a clean, dry surface using a sealer applicator, pump sprayer, sealer sponge, brush, paint roller or paint pad
- Ensure an even coat with good saturation and coverage
- After 10-15 minutes (the longer the better), use a squeegee to remove excess surface sealer then wipe the surface completely dry with cotton cloths/towels
- Do not allow excess sealer to dry on the surface
- Allow to cure minimum 24 hours before installation or grouting
- If using dark or contrasting grout, or grouting porous rough textured surfaces, apply Grout Release+ after Condense Plus has cured, then grout as usual
- Tip: use Haze Away in the final rinse water during grouting to help reduce grout haze
How to use - six sided dip sealing plus consolidating
- Option 1: fill a clean plastic tray with Condense Plus and fully submerge the piece for 10-15 minutes (the longer the better). Option 2: lay out the individual pieces on a plastic tarp then saturate the pieces using a pump sprayer, ensuring even saturation of all 6 sides
- After 10-15 minutes, use a squeegee to remove excess surface sealer then wipe the surface completely dry with cotton cloths/towels
- Do not allow excess sealer to dry on the surface
- Lean sealed pieces vertically against a wall. Place a plastic wedge or spacer between each piece so the pieces are not touching, allowing a gap of 5-10 cm between each piece for air circulation and proper curing. Do not stack one on top of the other
- Allow to cure minimum 24 hours before installation or grouting
- After 24 hours and before installation, scrub back the surface of the stone with a white nylon pad or brush to remove any sealer residue
Important note - treat the sealed underside as low porosity: Condense Plus will reduce the porosity of the underside sealed surface. Contact your adhesive supplier for specification of an appropriate adhesive suitable for installing low porosity/dense surfaces. The sealed underside surface should be thoroughly back buttered using the flat side of a trowel with adhesive to ensure proper coverage and adhesion. Follow the adhesive manufacturer's instructions for the selected adhesive and grout and ensure industry installation standards are followed.
Stain protection & colour enhancement
For best stain protection against oil, food, grease and grime, apply Aqua-Seal Gold+ after you have pre-sealed with Condense Plus, then installed and grouted the surface. For a colour enhanced look and best stain protection, use Enhance'N'Seal.
Note: do not use Condense Plus on the top surface if using any other colour enhancing sealer except Enhance'N'Seal, or if a coating sealer will be your final sealer. In this case, use it on 5 sides - the 4 sides and also underneath - not on the top surface.
Limitations
Not a waterproofing agent and will not prevent surface wear, scuff marks or etching from harsh or acidic products. Spills should be wiped up immediately to help minimise staining. Condense Plus will strengthen the sealed surface, however it cannot make it permanently salt safe if it is not a salt safe material. Stone or other material that is too soft, friable or not salt safe should not be used in a freeze-thaw or salt water environment.
Coverage
Approximately 0.25-20 m² per 1 litre per coat. Will vary depending on whether six sided sealing or only top surface pre-sealing (one side) is used, plus the density, porosity, texture and absorption of the surface, weather conditions, application method and number of coats. The table below is based on ONE surface sealing (top surface only); figures in brackets are for six sided sealing.
| Surface | Top surface only | Six sided sealing |
|---|---|---|
| Bluestone flamed | 15-20 m² | 2-2.5 m² |
| Encaustic tiles | 8-10 m² | 1-1.25 m² |
| Granite honed | 15-20 m² | 2-2.5 m² |
| Marble honed | 15-20 m² | 2-2.5 m² |
| Limestone honed | 10-15 m² | 1.25-2 m² |
| Sandstone honed | 8-10 m² | 1-1.25 m² |
| Saltillo | 2-4 m² | 0.25-0.5 m² |
| Terracotta pressed | 10-15 m² | 1.25-2 m² |
| Terrazzo honed | 15-20 m² | 2-2.5 m² |
| Travertine honed | 15-20 m² | 2-2.5 m² |
Precautions & safety directions
- Read the entire label, SDS and technical bulletin before using
- Wear appropriate gloves, skin, foot and eye protection - corrosive
- Use when the surface temperature is between 4°C and 28°C
- Surface must be clean, dry and free from other sealers and coatings
- Do not saturate the open grout joints if sealing after installation, or if sealing after installation and before grouting
- Avoid contact with wood, plastic, metal and glass - corrosive
- Avoid applying to surfaces contaminated with salt. Ensure all cracks and defects are repaired with appropriate materials
- The surface is ready for light traffic after 6-8 hours. Keep dry for a minimum of 6-8 hours. Full cure in 24 hours
- May slightly darken some surfaces. Do a test area first to check desired results
- Always test first in an inconspicuous area
Handling, storage, clean up & first aid
Handling & storage: close the container tightly after each use. Store in the original container between 4°C and 32°C. Shelf life is approx 3 years in an unopened container, less after opening - storage beyond that time does not necessarily mean the product is unusable; do a small test area first. Do not re-use the container, discard in rubbish. Clean tools and clothing with water before they dry. Keep or store away from combustible materials.
First aid: immediately contact a doctor or Poisons Information Centre (Aust 131-126, NZ 0800 764 766). Inhalation: first aid not generally required. Ingestion: rinse mouth, do not induce vomiting. Eyes: rinse cautiously with water for several minutes, remove contact lenses if present and easy to do, continue rinsing. Skin: remove immediately all contaminated clothing and rinse skin with water.
