Tessellated tiles

Small geometric tiles laid in intricate patterns, classic on Victorian and Federation verandahs and halls.

Tessellated tiles are small, unglazed geometric tiles in colours such as red, black, cream and blue, laid in intricate patterns with decorative borders. They are a hallmark of Victorian and Federation verandahs, paths and entrance halls across Australia.

These tiles and their grout are porous, so they absorb dirt, grime and stains, and heritage floors can show efflorescence and old sealer build-up. Clean gently with a suitable tile cleaner, and remove failed coatings before re-sealing. Sealing helps reduce staining and can enhance colour, keeping the pattern easier to maintain.
